Ostendo Continuum - FAQs

Do I need to upgrade to Ostendo Continuum?

Yes — eventually. Continuum is the future direction of Ostendo, and all clients will move to it in time.
However, for many clients there’s no urgency right now, and we’re recommending waiting unless there’s a clear reason to move sooner.

Why are you recommending a delay if Continuum is already available?

Continuum introduces a major change to the underlying technology, particularly around cloud hosting, firebird and mail services.

While it’s available now, additional core functionality is still being released. For clients whose systems are working well, delaying avoids unnecessary change and allows for a smoother upgrade later.

In short: if there’s no pressure, there’s no benefit in rushing.

I remember talking about upgrading earlier — has the advice changed?

No — the need to upgrade hasn’t changed, but the recommended timing has become clearer.

As testing and validation have progressed with Development‑X, it’s now clear that a measured, staged rollout delivers the best outcome for clients. That’s the approach we’re taking.

When would you recommend upgrading sooner?

We’re generally recommending earlier upgrades only if you’re dealing with things like:

    • Imminent or likely hardware failure
    • Ongoing performance issues
    • Infrastructure that can’t reasonably be extended
    • A planned move to cloud hosting that aligns well with Continuum

If this sounds like your situation, it’s worth a conversation.

Is Cutcher & Neale being overly cautious?

Deliberately so — and importantly, this approach has been validated by Development‑X as the right one to take.

Continuum upgrades touch databases, reports, integrations, and performance. We believe it’s better to be careful and thorough now, rather than fix avoidable issues later.

Will my system stop working if I stay on my current version?

No. Ostendo 242 continues to function normally, and there is no immediate “end of life” forcing an upgrade.

Our focus is on planning upgrades at the right time, not forcing them prematurely.

Have we already spoken about this?

Possibly. We’ve already discussed Continuum with around 50% of our Ostendo clients.

👉 If you’ve already had that conversation, you don’t need to do anything further unless something has changed in your environment, then reach out to our team.

If I haven’t spoken to you yet, should I contact someone?

Yes — if:

    • You haven’t yet discussed Continuum with us, or
    • You think you may need to upgrade sooner due to performance or hardware concerns

Contact us here, otherwise, we’ll reach out as part of our structured upgrade planning.

When will upgrades actually start?

Here’s the current plan:

    • From 20 April 2026 – We’ll start planning and scheduling specific client upgrades
    • From May 2026 – We expect to begin upgrading suitable client environments

Each upgrade will be planned individually — there will be no across‑the‑board upgrades.

Will all clients be upgraded at the same time?

No. Every Ostendo environment is different.

Upgrades will be prioritised based on:

    • Client readiness
    • Technical need
    • Business impact

This ensures each upgrade is handled properly and with minimal disruption.

What should I do now?

For most clients: nothing just yet.

If you’ve already spoken with us, sit tight unless something changes. If you haven’t, or you’re concerned your system may need earlier attention, feel free to get in touch.
