Ostendo Continuum (243) Performance & What It Means for You

Why is Ostendo becoming faster?

    • Ostendo Update 243 introduces a modern database engine (Firebird 5) designed for significantly improved performance and scalability.
    • This change is structural, not cosmetic — it improves how Ostendo works with modern infrastructure to deliver faster results across everyday tasks.

It upgrades old database connectivity to a more efficient system that better manages large data and user volumes.

What kind of speed improvements can clients expect?

    • More than 12x faster in both single and multi-session environments. See example here.

Does this benefit single users too, or just large teams?

Yes - Testing indicates that single user sessions perform at the same speed as multi-user sessions.

Does hosting choice affect performance?

    • Ostendo supports multiple deployment options including on‑premise, self‑hosted cloud application server, and fully managed cloud application server environments.
    • Remote and managed hosting options allow easier scaling of resources (such as processing power and memory) to match business growth and workload demands. This is our recommended cloud solution.
    • All deployment models use the same improved database technology (Firebird 5)

What else improves beyond speed?

    • Automated updates
    • Simple access from any pc in any location that has internet connectivity available
    • Improved technology stack with MCP connectors, custom screens and BI tools.

Is this a “one‑off” improvement or part of a roadmap?

    • This update lays the foundation for further enhancements.
    • Additional performance, scalability and capability improvements are planned progressively over the next 6 to 12 months.
    • Clients on Ostendo continuum (>243) will continue to benefit as these enhancements are released.

What does this mean for clients long‑term?

    • System scale as data volumes and user numbers grow.
    • Less operational friction during peak periods.
    • A platform that evolves with the business rather than limiting it.
    • Confidence that the system architecture is aligned with modern best practice.

Will my system stop working if I stay on my current version?

No. Ostendo 242 continues to function normally, and there is no immediate “end of life” forcing an upgrade. However, we are not anticipating any further development of 242 and expect an end of life announcement from development-x in the next 6-12 months

Will all clients be upgraded at the same time?

No. Every Ostendo environment is different.

Upgrades will be prioritised by our team based on:

        • Client readiness
        • Technical need
        • Business impact

This ensures each upgrade is handled properly and with minimal disruption. For details refer to our information guide.
