For many years, the MYOB desktop application has been the clear “go-to” for power users. But that balance is shifting.
The AccountRight browser experience has matured significantly, and for many clients it’s now becoming the preferred way to work, not just a secondary option.
Why reconsider the browser?
The browser now supports most day-to-day workflows, including:
- Sales, purchasing, payroll, and inventory
- Batch emailing invoices and remittances
- STP reporting and pay runs
- Multi-tab working for better productivity
Beyond feature parity, it also brings real operational benefits:
- Work from anywhere, on any device (no install required)
- Reduced reliance on individual workstations
Where the browser is now leading
There are now clear areas where the browser goes further than desktop:
- Built-in eInvoicing support
- Split-screen transaction entry with source documents
- Advanced reporting, including:
- Consolidated multi-entity reporting
- Flexible report periods
- Shareable report packs with custom formatting
So what’s the catch?
There are still important limitations:
What this means for our clients
For many MYOB users—particularly those with simpler operational requirements—the browser is now:
- More accessible
- More collaborative
- Easier to maintain
However, the desktop application remains essential for more complex environments, particularly where advanced inventory, costing, or multi-currency is required.
Our take
We’re now at a practical tipping point.
MYOB’s ongoing investment in cloud, automation, and browser-first functionality reinforces this shift—this isn’t just feature catch-up, it’s product direction.
If you’re primarily using MYOB for standard finance, sales, and payroll workflows, the browser is likely ready to be your default.
